Khewara Salt mines is situated in Tehsil Pind Dadan Khan, District Jhelum at an approximate distance of 200 Kms from Islamabad adn 245 Km from Lahre. It has an easy appraoch via Lahore - Islmabad Motorway through Lillah or Kalar Khar interchange. The journey time by car from Islamabad is 2 hours 20 mintes and from Lahore is 3 hours 20 minutes approx.
Historical Background
326 B.C, during the battle between Alexander the Great and RAja Porus at the bank of river Jhelum, the sick horses licked the out crop rocs and got well thus discuvered this enormous treasure of salt deposit at Khewra.
It is the huge and one of hte rechest salt fields in the world. The length of salt range is over 186 miles (300 Kilometers) and width is 8 to 30 ms with an average height of of 220ft. It starts from Banganwala near Jhelum river to Kalabagh near INuds river. Its highest altutuge at Sakesar Mountain is Khewara Gorge is known as "Museum of Geology" where rocks from pre-cambrian age to recent perios are exposed.
